Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care
    • Conduct thorough patient assessments and document changes in patient condition.
    • Implement corrective actions based on recognized changes in patient condition.
    • Knowledge of IV and/or oral chemotherapy medications that may be prescribed.
    • Interpret basic laboratory and diagnostic data and communicate results to physicians for follow-up/intervention.
    • Demonstrate accuracy of documentation of assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
    • Utilize the pain scale in assessing patient's pain and document interventions and progress.
    • Function as a part of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure continuity of care and concerns.
    • Document patients on concurrent treatment and communicate to the appropriate staff.
    • Coordinate Brachy Therapy procedures with physicians' offices and OR scheduling.
    • Responsible for patient teaching for pre-op and post-op follow-up instructions.
    • Maintain open interactions with various internal departments, outside agencies, patients, and their families.
  • Event Participation and Coordination
    • Participate in Cancer Center-sponsored community health screenings and events.
  • Compliance/Safety
    • Responsible for reporting any safety-related incidents in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attend all safety-related training programs; perform work in a safe manner; monitor work environment for possible safety issues and ensure others are also performing work in a safe manner.
    • Stay current and comply with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
    • If required for the position, ensure all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
    • Complete all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
    • Remain current on radiation oncology and medical oncology practices.
    Qualifications
    • Education
      • RNs hired on or after 7/1/2016: Must graduate from a BSN program within 6 years of hire into an RN position.
      • Existing Staff RNs: RNs hired before 7/1/2016 are not mandated to have a BSN, but are encouraged to pursue a BSN degree.
    • Certification & Licensures
      • Active, unrestricted, Arizona RN License or valid, participating compact license - Required
      • BLS (American Heart Association) - Required upon hire
      • ACLS - Required within 90 days from date of hire
      • The following ONS certifications/education pertinent to clinical field of employment by December 31st of the year following date of hire:
      • Medical Oncology = OCN, AOCN, or AOCNS - Preferred OR
      • Earn 12 cancer-related continuing education nursing contact hours per calendar year - Required
      • Breast Oncology = CBCN - Preferred OR
      • Earn 12 cancer-related continuing education nursing contact hours per calendar year - Required
      • Radiation Oncology = ONS/ONCC Radiation Therapy Certificate - Preferred OR
      • Earn 12 cancer-related continuing education nursing contact hours per calendar year - Required
    • Experience
      • Minimum 1 year experience in the field of oncology - Required
      • Minimum 3 years of acute care nursing experience - Preferred
