Aviation Safety Inspector, Assistant Aircrew Program Manager

The Assistant Aircrew Program Manager (AAPM) serves as a key member of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Flight Standards Service, responsible for ensuring the adequacy of aircrew ground and flight training/testing and standards for specific aircraft of assigned air carriers. This role requires a strong understanding of aviation regulations, policies, and procedures, as well as excellent communication and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement work programs to ensure periodic surveillance of designated pilot and flight engineer examiners, pilot and flight engineer check airmen, and company training programs.
- Assure assigned air carriers conduct flight crew training and testing required by appropriate FARs, FAA-approved training programs, and current testing standards.
- Oversee company check airmen and Aircrew Program Designees (APDs).
- Serve as technical advisor to the Program Operations Inspector (POI) on assigned areas of the company's training and testing programs.
- Coordinate technical instructions, policy orders, and procedures through the POI to ensure uniformity of training and testing activities.
- Conduct enforcement investigations and prepare final reports and recommendations on disposition.
- Perform or assist in the emergency suspension of airmen certificates.
- Conduct re-examination of certificated airmen.
- Conduct investigations of public complaints, congressional inquiries, and aircraft incidents and accidents.
- Recommend the designation of APDs and pilot examiners.
- Responsible for the conduct of ATP flight tests, additional type ratings, and Flight Engineer (F/E) certification; PIC, SIC, and F/E proficiency tests; SIC and F/E initial qualification tests, and Line Oriented Flight Training (LOFT).
- Evaluate training programs to ensure they meet the requirements of the FARs.
- Approve or disapprove these training programs, including flight simulators, training devices, or other such equipment used in these programs.
- US Citizenship is required.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Must submit an SF50 (See Required Documents).
- Selectee will be required to report to an AVS/FAA facility.
- Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements for an Aviation Safety Inspector in the 1825 series as outlined in the OPM qualifications standards.

- Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years.
- Valid State driver's license.
- Fluency in the English language.
- No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Aviation Safety Inspector positions have job-related medical requirements.
- Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector position in a safe and efficient manner, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Medical Requirements: Applicants must meet job-related medical requirements which will be assessed and validated during the pre-employment process.
