We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Landfill Attendant - Waste Management Specialist. This role will be responsible for performing manual work in the maintenance of the County landfill, dumpster sites, department facilities, and equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Perform various unskilled, manual tasks involved in the maintenance of department facilities, transfer station, and equipment.
- Perform routine grounds keeping work, including mowing grass, removing weeds, picking up debris, etc.
- Perform general building maintenance and cleaning; stocks supplies.
- Operate a lawn mower, weed eater; use various hand and power tools, maintenance and cleaning supplies.
- Perform all duties in accordance with all County policies and procedures, standards of quality and safety, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Interact and communicate with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other County personnel, and the general public.
- Attend training, meetings, etc., as necessary to enhance job knowledge and skills.
- Assist in cleaning around dumpster sites.
- Clean garbage trucks and other equipment.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures, and policies of the Sanitation Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of Landfill Attendant - Waste Management Specialist.
- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, procedures, and related information.
- Ability to safely operate lawn mowers and other equipment necessary for assigned duties.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the industry; ability to work effectively despite occasional exposure to extreme weather and temperatures, wetness/humidity, machinery hazards, traffic hazards, dust, fumes, above-average noise, odors, smoke, vibrations, hazardous waste, etc.
- Knowledge of basic grounds maintenance methods.
- Ability to offer assistance to co-workers and employees of other departments as required.
- Ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency.
- Ability to perform required mathematical calculations.
- Ability to read and understand work orders, equipment manuals, and other materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job.
- Ability to prepare simple records with accuracy and in a timely manner.
- Knowledge of the terminology used within the department.
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with co-workers and supervisor.
- Ability to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
Graduation from high school or GED and some experience operating equipment and dealing with the public; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
