Job Description Environmental Risk ManagerWe are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Risk Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of environmental regulations and compliance requirements, as well as experience developing and implementing effective compliance programs.
Responsibilities:- Develop and maintain comprehensive compliance policies and protocols aligned with state and federal regulations (DEP/EPA/OSHA).
- Collaborate with external consultants to ensure all necessary licenses and permits are current and in good standing.
- Establish a robust compliance program encompassing all aspects of our operations, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
- Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for monitoring compliance effectiveness and implement a system for tracking progress.
- Conduct regular audits to assess compliance status and identify areas for improvement.
- Coordinate and participate in inspections conducted by regulatory agencies, such as DEP, EPA, OSHA, Fire, Alarm, and local authorities.
- Stay abreast of evolving environmental regulations and update policies accordingly through continuous training and certification.
- Oversee the safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and waste products, including vendor management and maintenance.
- Develop and deliver comprehensive employee training programs on relevant safety protocols (Hazcom, Hazwhopper, Forklift, etc.).
- Maintain up-to-date emergency action plans and contingency procedures, ensuring all personnel are trained annually.
- Manage the SDS binder for warehouse and compliance purposes.
- Designate appropriate chemical storage locations based on hazard classifications (corrosives, oxidizers, flammables, etc.).
- Proactively identify and address potential safety hazards or unsafe practices within the workplace.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, or dangerous practices, documenting findings and reporting to Human Resources and management.
- Maintain a comprehensive library of compliance and safety resources for staff reference.
- Inspect equipment and machinery regularly to ensure adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Develop preventative measures to minimize the risk of future violations.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in environmental risk management or compliance roles.
- Possession of relevant compliance certifications (or willingness to obtain).
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify potential risks.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations (DEP/EPA/OSHA).
- Experience with DEP, EPA, and OSHA inspections.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex documents and policies.
- Strong time management and organizational skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
