Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team at the Hennepin County Public Health Clinic. This is a full-time, benefit-earning position that will provide sexual health care services, including HIV testing, STI testing and treatment, family planning, and PrEP. The ideal candidate will have experience working with diverse populations and a strong commitment to advancing health and racial equity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide HIV prevention and sexual health care services, including HIV testing, STI testing and treatment, family planning, and PrEP.
  • Provide MOUD (medications for opioid use disorder) through office-based buprenorphine therapy, conducting initial assessments and follow-up evaluations.
  • Conduct refugee health screening exams, including health history, physical examination, and preventive screening of newly arrived refugees to identify acute and chronic health problems as well as identify public health risks.
  • Evaluate and treat patients with active and latent tuberculosis, including medication management.
  • Perform lab work as indicated, including gram stains, wet preps, and other labs in CLIA certified on-site lab under direction of lab technician specialist.
  • Provide health education, harm reduction counseling, consultation, and referrals based on patient needs.
Requirements
  • For hire as a Nurse Practitioner, one of the following: Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the State of Minnesota and National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (CNP). Possession of a valid license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) issued by the State of Minnesota. National Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
  • For hire as a Physician Assistant: Graduation from an accredited physician assistant (PA) program. Certification or eligibility for certification from the State of Minnesota as a Physician Assistant. Must also complete the Delegation Agreement and Notice of Intent to Practice as required by the MN Board of Medical Practice.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Experience: Providing sexual health care services, including family planning services and sexually transmitted infection testing, treatment, and prevention. Providing addiction medicine, specifically with buprenorphine. Providing care to refugee and/or immigrant populations. Working with diverse populations from communities experiencing health disparities who present with social vulnerabilities and have a history of experiencing barriers to healthcare. With phlebotomy.
  • Ability to: Foster an environment that recognizes and respects cultural, behavioral, and socioeconomic differences. Exhibit sensitivity to the needs and issues of diverse and disenfranchised individuals. Work independently and collaborate with colleagues to provide quality care. Deliver services to patients within a harm reduction model. Communicate effectively in verbal, written, and electronic communications. Adapt and problem-solve in a changing clinic practice environment.
