About the Role

Amazon is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior System Development Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our automation team, you will be responsible for designing and developing controls for robotics systems and industrial automation equipment.

This is a unique opportunity to work on a foundational automation system that will transform warehouse operations by enabling the integration of multiple, complex automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, simplify, and continuously improve system controls architecture, including machine control code, networking, electrical design, and safety design.
  • Develop controls code utilizing structured text and ladder-logic on Codesys and RSLogix 5000 platforms.
  • Identify and implement system optimizations.
  • Debug internal and field issues, develop tools, and best practices for system monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers in design and development best practices.
  • Contribute to value engineering of the systems electrical and controls hardware components.
  • 25% travel expected to support onsite system testing.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 1+ years of designing or architecting new and existing systems experience.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals, including networking, storage, and operating systems.
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language, such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, or Ruby.
  • BS/MS Electrical Engineering (or similar field).
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, Siemens PLCs, and/or Soft PLCs/IPCs.
  • 6 years of experience in electrical control systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with IEC standards for electrical controls for robotics.
  • Demonstrated experience with Functional Safety standards.
  • Demonstrable skills in developing testable applications.
  • Solid debugging skills and the ability to diagnose and solve difficult problems.
  • Commitment to rigorous testing practices and design process flows.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with PowerShell, Python, Ruby, or Java is preferred. Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology is also preferred.

Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/network development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations is also preferred.
