About the Role

Morguard Corp is seeking a highly skilled Golf Course Assistant Superintendent to join our team. As a key member of our grounds maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the golf course is maintained to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice to the Superintendent on the daily condition of the golf course, including recommendations for maintenance and improvement.
  • Work closely with the turf staff to develop and implement effective maintenance strategies, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Practice and enforce all aspects of Golf Course Maintenance and Health & Safety Policy Manuals, ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Assume a management role in the absence of the Superintendent, providing leadership and guidance to the team.
  • Train and mentor staff on the safe operation of machinery, including safety procedures and protocols.
  • Maintain the golf course's buildings, equipment, and property to a high standard, ensuring they are in good working order.
  • Contribute to the Superintendent's pesticide and fertilizer management practices, ensuring accurate and timely recording of applications.
  • Repair and maintain the irrigation system, ensuring optimal water distribution and efficiency.
  • Calibrate, apply, and record fertilizer and pesticides, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Set up the golf course for play, ensuring it is ready for golfers in a timely and efficient manner.
Requirements
  • Possess a minimum of 2 years formal education, degree or diploma in turf grass management or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Approach responsibilities in an organized and energetic manner, with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
  • Possess good organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must possess logical and scientific thinking to solve problems, with the ability to communicate complex ideas to others.
  • Ability to carry out and communicate detailed, written or verbal instructions, as well as to retrieve information from technical courses.
  • Ability to visually inspect golf course conditions and report findings, with a focus on identifying areas for improvement.
  • Have a valid driver's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to effectively monitor and develop subordinates, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their goals.
  • Follows health and safety rules according to policy, ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or other management personnel.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labor, including bending, lifting, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting.
  • May be required to work in an environment that includes such elements as heat, rain, wind, cold, and other weather conditions.
