Laboratory Team Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Team Lead to join our team at Mercy Health System. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating technical activities of laboratory staff, while also performing clinical laboratory duties.
Key Responsibilities- Collect patient specimens and utilize the laboratory information system to receive patients, order and collect samples, test results, and answer questions from nurses and physicians.
- Evaluate specimen quality and identify when unacceptable, documenting information concerning quality of specimen and impact on test values.
- Perform waived and moderate and high complexity lab tests as defined by CLIA 42CFR493, analyzing test results prior to release of information to chart for validity and accuracy.
- Recognize subtle yet significant problems which occur with testing methodologies, troubleshoot suspect test results using technical knowledge and experience, and implement corrective action when inaccurate, inappropriate findings/results/reports are identified.
- Assure that designated turnaround times for results are met and that critical results are appropriately reported and documented.
- Perform quality control and proficiency testing procedures as defined by policy, interpret and troubleshoot quality control results to ensure accurate and precise test results.
- Perform preventative maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory instrumentation, and participate on interdepartmental committees or teams.
- Teach students and train new partners, review quality control results, submit data to peer review organization, and make necessary adjustments for area of specialty.
- Assure enrollment in appropriate proficiency testing programs, administer proficiency testing program according to regulatory standards, and assure acceptable performance.
- Develop effective orientation checklists and training protocols for partners, and prepare and deliver partner performance evaluations and skill/competency checklist.
- Evaluate new methods, procedures, and equipment, and assure compliance with regulatory standards and represent lab during accreditation surveys.
- Serve as a technical resource to medical staff, system laboratories, and other departments, and maintain appropriate documentation and records.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with experience in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, instrumentation, and quality control principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with laboratory staff, medical staff, and other departments.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational and time management skills.
