Job Summary

The Optician role at VSP Vision is a dynamic position that requires a strong passion for delivering exceptional customer service and a keen eye for detail. As an Optician, you will play a vital role in helping customers find the perfect eyeglasses and contact lenses to suit their needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine the reason for the patient's visit and identify lifestyle needs to deliver personalized recommendations for eyewear.
  • Attract and retain customers by delivering exceptional customer service and promoting outstanding patient satisfaction.
  • Assist customers in selecting frames and coordinate frames with optical measurements and prescription.
  • Recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit customer needs, occupation, habits, and facial features.
  • Take measurements, assist patients with adjustments, and troubleshoot and dispense eyewear.
  • Ensure correct pricing and realistic delivery time quotes to patients.
  • Provide enthusiastic and concise communication to meet and exceed patient expectations and foster positive relationships with team members.
  • Clean and merchandise displays daily, displaying effective merchandise at all times.
  • Assist with insurance billing and processing orders.
  • Document all patient communication in the patient record within the practice software system.
  • Work on special projects, cross-train in different departments, and perform other related duties assigned or requested.
Requirements
  • One to two years of experience in a related field.
  • Applicable State licensure or certification by a nationally-recognized optician association as an optician.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office package.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective verbal communication skills to prioritize multiple tasks and be available for incoming calls and inquiries.
  • Effective written communication skills to clearly document customer situations and prepare letters to confirm agreements made.
  • Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building skills.
  • Ability to ask appropriate and relevant questions to identify customer needs.
  • Proven problem-solving, negotiations, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to use appropriate discretion and judgment in applying customer/call handling guidelines.
  • Ability to listen, process transactions, and interact with customers simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions

The working environment is generally favorable, with adequate lighting and temperature. There are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
