A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A HEAD LIFEGUARD


JOB SUMMARY:

This role is responsible for enforcing safety regulations to ensure the well-being of patrons. You will monitor activities and provide services at the pool area to prevent accidents and assist swimmers and customers. Delivering exceptional customer service with a positive attitude is crucial. You will oversee the daily operations of the Pearland Natatorium or City Swimming Pool (as assigned) in the absence of the Assistant Pool Manager, Manager, or Aquatics Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise lifeguards and water safety instructors at the Pearland Natatorium in the absence of the Aquatics Manager and, if assigned to the City Pool, oversee lifeguards and cashiers in the absence of the Assistant Manager and Manager.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work as scheduled.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to all facility users, including members, class participants, facility renters, and school district and club athletes and coaches.
  • Monitor the safety of swimmers and enforce pool rules and regulations.
  • Actively observe for swimmers in distress and provide assistance or rescue as needed, including administering first aid and CPR.
  • Ensure cleanliness and order in swimming areas by enforcing the regulations of the City of Pearland Aquatics Division.
  • Conduct daily maintenance tasks, including cleaning the deck, restrooms, and facility.
  • Test water quality, including chlorine content and pH levels, and document findings appropriately.
  • Set up and take down lane lines as required.
  • Work flexible hours, including days, evenings, and weekends as necessary.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or equipment issues to management immediately.
  • Participate in and/or lead required training sessions and meetings.
  • Contribute to team efforts by performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED is required.

At least one full swim season of experience is necessary (two seasons preferred). Other relevant management experience may be considered.

Certifications Required:

American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification is mandatory.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor certification is required.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification or equivalent must be obtained prior to starting work.

Pre-Interview Swimming Test Requirements:

1. Swim 300 yards continuously using only the front crawl or breaststroke.

2. Swim 20-25 yards, submerge to a depth of 13 feet, retrieve a 10 lbs. weight, and return to the starting point while holding the weight with both hands within a time limit of 100 seconds.

3. Tread water for two minutes without using hands.
