Job Title: Engineering Technician 1

Join the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) as an Engineering Technician 1, where you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality of construction projects across the state.

Job Summary:

The Engineering Technician 1 is responsible for inspecting various aspects of construction projects, including portland cement concrete pavement, structural concrete, embankment and base course, asphaltic concrete, bridges, airport runways, drainage facilities, and other structures. This role requires a strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect construction projects to ensure compliance with DOTD policies and procedures, plans, and specifications.
  • Compute and document item quantities, samples materials, inspect construction work, and document daily work activities as a project progresses.
  • Use computer and/or IPad to document sampled material, daily work activities, pay quantities, emails, and other information needed for project management.
  • Perform field measurements, cross sections, and survey layout work to check plan accuracy.
  • Assist with as-built plan mark-ups and create project documentation to initiate partial estimates, final estimates, and the 2059's (ATM) submittals.
  • Train lower-level engineering technicians in project inspection duties.
Requirements:
  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.
Working Conditions:

This role requires the ability to work in various weather conditions and terrain, including high places. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to perform project inspection and management duties with minimal supervision.
