Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging team, you will be responsible for operating nuclear medicine equipment, administering radiopharmaceuticals, and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate nuclear medicine equipment to produce high-quality scans and measure concentrations of radioactive isotopes.
  • Administer radiopharmaceuticals and procedural adjunctive medication according to clinician prescriptions and approved exam parameters.
  • Perform venipuncture and placement of peripheral IV catheters for medication administration.
  • Access other vascular access devices as determined by department training and need.
  • Follow correct procedures for handling radioactive materials and implement ALARA measures.
  • Maintain accurate records of pharmaceutical doses and comply with State and Accrediting Organization requirements for radiation safety and protection.
  • Perform quality assurance of equipment to ensure safe and accurate performance.
  • Observe radiation safety precautions and maintain necessary documentation of the acquisition and disposition of isotopes and radioactive material.
  • Order daily supplies of radio isotopes needed to perform scheduled exams.
  • Inject patients with the correct and accurate dosage of radioisotopes.
  • Maintain hospital and department fire safety, disaster policy, and standard precautions and safety standards.
  • Promote patient safety by reporting issues through established channels and participating in safety initiatives.
  • Adhere to department standards of image quality and safety practices.
  • Label all images appropriately and check image quality prior to patient dismissal.
  • Document pertinent information on performance improvement logs and data sheets.
  • Provide a safe work environment for self and others.
  • Treat all patients and customers with respect and compassion.
  • Utilize appropriate phone etiquette and provide an environment conducive to privacy for all patients.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality according to hospital policies.
  • Explain procedures to patients pertinent to examinations being done.
  • Develop leadership skills and professionalism through participation in department and/or hospital-based committees and continuing education programs.
  • Attend to personal work schedule in a consistent and professional manner.
  • Keep current with Nuclear Medicine skills and new developments in the field.
  • Demonstrate self-direction by identifying learning needs and establishing self-development activities.
  • Complete all development goals and departmental in-services and competencies within an appropriate timeframe.
  • Work independently while maintaining adaptability and flexibility for change.
  • Identify problems and take steps toward resolution.
  • Attend and participate in department meetings.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved program of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • 1 year experience preferred but not essential.
  • Licensed by the ILL. Dept. of Nuclear Safety Registry eligible.
  • CPR Certification.
Working Conditions

This position requires radiation exposure, long hours, and on-call shifts. The incumbent must be able to work under minimal supervision, make independent professional decisions, and handle stress related to fluctuating patient volumes. The position also requires the ability to operate portable equipment, communicate with patients, and adjust to flexible work hours.

The incumbent must be able to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and use patient handling equipment when necessary. The position also requires the ability to work weekends, holidays, and emergency call-backs, as well as participate in on-call programs and department needs with minimal notice.
