Aircraft Painter Job Description

This is a Monday to Friday night shift position based in Melbourne, FL.

Job Summary

The Aircraft Painter is responsible for the painting and sealing process of aircraft and its sub-assemblies, including surface preparation, masking, and chemicals handling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare surfaces to be painted or sealed according to working instructions using abrasives, solvents, and brushes.
  • Install masking for strips or other aircraft painting details.
  • Mix, stir, and thin paint or other coatings using spatulas or power mixing equipment.
  • Perform spraying of base and top coatings, ensuring compliance with technical and quality requirements.
  • Apply or install logos, symbols, or designs on painted surfaces, according to blueprint specifications, using measuring instruments, stencils, and patterns.
  • Ensure the use of appropriate technical references and tools in performing paint and sealing duties.
  • Clean and maintain all currently used painting or sealing equipment.
  • Set up ladders and scaffolding according to regulations and aircraft requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal and local environmental and OSHA/TOSHA regulations.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High School or GED equivalent.
  • 4 or more years of experience in a related field, preferably in aeronautical environments.
  • Knowledge of preparation and painting of aircraft, support equipment, and allied components.
  • Safety procedures for chemicals handling.
  • Knowledge of blueprints and painting diagrams.
  • Strong ability in paint spraying.
  • Understanding of technical management and quality assurance procedures.
  • Ability to work in a safe professional manner, adhering to all regulatory requirements.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator, as required.
Working Conditions / Environment / Special Requirements

  • Must be able to wear a respirator, as per OSHA 29 CFR 'Respirator Protection' regulations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and different shifts, if required.
  • Subject to random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations.
