Sr Architectural Lab Planner

We are currently seeking a Sr Lab Planner to join our team. As a Sr Lab Planner, you will be responsible for leading complex technology facility project planning efforts towards successful completion. Your tasks will include providing overall programming, master planning, lab design planning, and communicating with clients/user groups to understand project requirements.

Leadership
  • You will oversee advanced technical knowledge in laboratory planning and programming of various-sized pharmaceutical, academic research, biotech, or other emerging technical facilities.
  • You will provide technical planning expertise and leadership for laboratory facilities in areas such as programming, design, fit-out planning, equipment planning, MEP systems integration planning casework specification, and construction administration.
  • You will develop a comprehensive understanding of clients' program requirements and standards and policies for completion.
  • You will lead the design development, modification, and/or review of laboratory planning concepts and solutions.
  • You will translate planning concepts into comprehensible terms for clients, designers, and project team members.
  • You will develop and oversee architectural drawings and specifications to communicate planning concepts for project documentation and construction.
  • You will oversee and supervise the development of architectural documents, elevations, sections, details, etc.
  • You will anticipate and develop solutions to technical and design problems following established standards.
  • You will oversee the construction administration of laboratory spaces and associated systems.
  • You will apply proper QA/QC methods throughout the project.
  • You will develop and maintain excellent relationships with existing and potential clients. You will participate in selected marketing and business development opportunities.
  • You will actively seek new knowledge in the design and planning of laboratories within technical facilities.
  • You will oversee the development of standard materials that describe the portfolio, systems, processes, and people of the Science + Technology Group.
  • You will incorporate Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.
  • You will mentor and direct the work of less experienced staff. You may participate in professional development reviews and "Lessons Learned" sessions.
  • You will assure HOK document standards are met and archive documents appropriately.
  • You will actively participate in industry associations to ensure visibility.
  • You will take personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.
  • You will foster a commitment to external and internal client service.
Client Interface
  • You will lead the client (heads of departments, specialists, etc.) in programming sessions defining the facility needs (SOP and regulatory requirements).
  • You will lead periodic project meetings and presentations, ensuring the client is adequately briefed on project progress.
Teamwork
  • You will provide guidance to project managers, architects, and project engineers to establish overall project budgets and milestone schedules.
  • You will communicate planning concepts to project teams, both verbally and through graphic and written reports.
  • You will assist the Science + Technology business unit leadership in developing yearly strategic business plans and budget, focusing on appropriate market sectors and strategies for winning and doing work successfully.
  • You will participate actively in the firm-wide Science + Technology practice within HOK.
  • You will set up project team software parameters and manage standards.
  • You may oversee the preparation of 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings and build models for client/project team review.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • You must possess demonstrated creativity, passion, and interest in the design and planning of laboratories within technical facilities.
  • You must have advanced knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements for laboratory design.
  • You must have advanced knowledge of laboratory programming delivery and how design impacts those systems, including space, operational, and equipment programming, as well as MEP systems and casework.
  • You must have advanced knowledge of laboratory planning, design, construction documents, construction administration, and project construction cost control for lab facilities.
  • You must have advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design, and LEED guidelines.
  • You must possess strong hand and advanced CAD drafting skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, is required.
  • Proficiency in 3D Modeling software such as 3D Studio Max and Viz 2006 is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Revit or other BIM platform is preferred.
  • Proficiency in NewForma is preferred.
  • You must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing and convey laboratory planning needs to designers and other team members.
  • You must be able to work in a team environment and supervise others.
  • You must be able to effectively meet deadlines.
Salary

The estimated annual salary for this position is $115,000-$140,000.
