The Senior BI Systems Engineer is responsible for the administration, operation, monitoring, tuning, and patching of the corporate Business Intelligence (BI) and Analytics Systems. This position requires a deep understanding of the maintenance and functionality of BI applications and their components. The Senior BI Systems Engineer develops and manages monitoring systems to assess usage and ensure operational reliability, taking a lead role in executing complex technical tasks and supervising operations support personnel.
This engineer manages multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while upholding a high standard for customer satisfaction, advocating for the effective utilization of BI/Analytics Systems throughout the organization. They remain informed about upcoming features and improvements, organize and coordinate patches and upgrades, and engage in project planning and proof-of-concept initiatives, influencing the development and optimal use of BI/Analytics Systems. Additionally, this role includes providing training to both technical staff and business users, researching, documenting, and suggesting best practices to continuously enhance and address the business requirements of the organization. This position may require on-call and after-hours support as necessary for operational and project assistance and reports to the Senior Manager of Business Intelligence & Analytics Systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the administration of BI/Analytics Systems, including installation, configuration, tuning, updates, and maintenance of software, applications, and servers for both shoreside and shipboard environments. Design and implement monitoring, reporting, and alerting systems to ensure optimal performance of BI/Analytics Systems and proactively identify anomalies to maintain business uptime. Lead and mentor operations support teams in incident resolution and project delivery. Develop and execute project plans, risk assessments, and contingency strategies. Research, document, and recommend best practices for the operation, support, and utilization of BI/Analytics Systems. Advocate for the effective use of BI/Analytics Systems across the organization. Plan and coordinate software patches and upgrades. Create and maintain a support knowledge base. Participate in project planning and proof-of-concept activities. Manage on-call and after-hours support requests as required.Position Qualifications:
Minimum of 7 years of experience in BI systems administration and support within a medium to large organization. At least 5 years of experience managing Power BI, Tableau, SAS, or similar systems. A minimum of 3 years of experience in Windows, Linux, or AIX system administration. At least 3 years of experience in SQL tuning with large-scale data sources. Minimum of 3 years of experience leading BI initiatives in a medium to large organization. Strong experience with Oracle, Azure Synapse, SQL Server, and DB2 data platforms. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, Outlook, OneNote, SharePoint, Teams, Slack, and JIRA. Familiarity with Agile methodologies, Data Warehouse, and Data Lake concepts, as well as data analysis. Strong leadership and collaboration skills are essential. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Strong analytical skills for effective problem-solving. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining a high standard for customer satisfaction. Capable of conveying technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Ability to mentor and train others in both small and large group settings. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field. Experience in the Cruise/Travel industry is preferred.Required Knowledge and Skills:
