Overview

The Norton Thoracic Institute at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center is seeking an Organ Procurement Surgeon to join its esteemed transplant program. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for the surgical recovery process, ensuring the timely and safe procurement of donor organs for lung transplantation.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate transplant organs and perform organ procurement, including DBD and DCD donors
  • Participate in ex-vivo lung perfusion and maintain knowledge of current organ procurement practices
  • Assume on-call surgical recovery responsibilities, ensuring adequate coverage and timely recovery of organs
  • Collaborate with transplant pulmonologists and surgeons to provide clinical leadership throughout the donation process
  • Communicate with the transplant center regarding potential issues with donor organs
Requirements
  • MD/DO license or equivalent experience as a procurement professional
  • Significant experience within the last 2 years with lung procurement
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Previous surgical experience with lung, heart, and/or abdominal procurement
  • Education: Graduate of a US ACGME-accredited General Surgery and/or Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency/Fellowship Program or foreign equivalent
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must meet all CMS regulatory requirements for procurement surgeons in accordance with UNOS
