The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) is responsible for overseeing the efficient distribution of electricity across a vast network of high-voltage transmission lines, managing power from numerous generation sources throughout the state.
The Energy Security Portfolio Coordinator will play a pivotal role in collaborating across various departments and assisting the Grid Transition Team to achieve critical objectives for the Energy Security division. As New York's power grid undergoes significant transformations to better serve consumers, the bulk power system is adapting to align with the state's clean energy goals.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Energy Security Manager in formulating, communicating, and executing tracking mechanisms for Energy Security initiatives that are in line with NYISO's Strategic Plan.
- Create metrics to assess the primary factors influencing the Reliability of the New York Grid during the transition to a carbon-neutral grid.
- Design dashboards to illustrate the involvement of various generators in different Regulatory programs.
- Establish timelines, develop schedules, and monitor progress to ensure timely achievement of objectives.
- Assist in identifying and managing risks; measure, report, and escalate issues to management as necessary.
- Prepare and evaluate data queries, reports, charts, and presentations to support special studies, investigations, board meetings, and regulatory processes.
- Facilitate NYISO's transition to a carbon-free grid by pinpointing key challenges and opportunities while driving improvements.
- Coordinate the flow of information from diverse sources across multiple areas, including environmental policies and control room operations, to enhance knowledge sharing within the organization.
- Migrate dashboards to an online platform such as Tableau to improve information sharing among Planning, Operations, and Market departments.
- Assist in creating procedures to minimize administrative burdens in managing and visualizing information that affects grid operations.
- Track and coordinate interconnection project queues to raise awareness of project statuses and their implications for grid reliability and studies.
- Identify organizational capabilities to monitor progress on initiatives across Planning and Operations, cataloging existing initiatives and their contributions.
- Engage with business units and participate in initiatives across Planning, Operations, Markets, and IT.
- Represent NYISO in industry committees, task forces, or stakeholder groups addressing Energy Security issues.
- Mentor and share knowledge with fellow members of the Energy Security team.
- Promote an inclusive and professional work environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Industrial Engineering is required; a Master's degree is preferred. Coursework in power system operation and planning, statistical analysis, and optimization techniques, particularly with linear programming-based models, is highly desirable.
- A minimum of five years of experience in electric transmission, generation, utility, ISO, or RTO environments.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, and Tableau.
- Experience in project planning, strong leadership skills, and an aptitude for comprehending complex business processes.
- Exceptional organizational skills with superior communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel and familiarity with SQL or statistical programming languages.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification as defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI) is a plus.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Capable of responding effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Proficient in writing presentations and articles using established techniques or styles.
- Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.
- Intermediate competency in a Windows operating environment using MS Office applications, email, and the Internet.
- Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking principles to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
