Position Overview

We are in search of an AWS Cloud Solutions Architect to play a pivotal role in the architecture, implementation, and ongoing management of cloud resources that underpin our primary data analytics platform. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in managing secure multi-account cloud environments and will adhere to best practices in security and data governance. This role involves taking full ownership of projects that may require collaboration with various business teams.

The AWS Cloud Solutions Architect must have extensive expertise in AWS infrastructure, demonstrating proficiency at a Solutions Architect level. The successful candidate will adeptly apply their knowledge of AWS to solve real-world business challenges while navigating specific security protocols, and will creatively develop and implement innovative solutions to enhance Verisk's data analytics capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, deploy, and oversee AWS infrastructure components such as EC2, RDS, IAM roles/policies, security groups, and Lambda functions through CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code methodologies, ensuring compliance with Verisk's security standards.
  • Given the sensitive nature of our data assets, the candidate will refine and adhere to established processes, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail.
  • Assist in the monitoring and assessment of cloud resources concerning compliance and address any identified issues.
  • Contribute to the technical design of project architectures, evaluating security risks, costs, and maintenance considerations of proposed solutions, while suggesting alternatives to optimize efficiency.
  • Research and assess emerging cloud technologies, evaluating their technical viability, including performance and governance, through the rapid execution of proof-of-concept initiatives.
  • Support internal teams with cloud-related requirements and provide insights into AWS services and Verisk's compliance policies.
  • Assist in troubleshooting issues faced by end-users in utilizing deployed AWS resources.
  • Engage with AWS representatives assigned to support Verisk's initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Proven ability to lead projects that support internal stakeholders and communicate effectively.
  • Experience in deploying and managing containerized applications using Amazon EKS and ECS, ensuring secure and efficient Kubernetes deployments.
  • Strong expertise in Linux operating systems and scripting for automation within cloud environments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of AWS networking concepts, including VPC architecture, and the ability to design secure and efficient network configurations.
  • Proficient in creating and managing infrastructure as code using tools such as AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, and AWS CDK, with skills in managing state files and troubleshooting deployments.
  • Extensive experience with AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), with a focus on refining and implementing policies that align with stringent security standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of AWS database services, including RDS, DynamoDB, and Aurora.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (or similar certification) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with industry security standards as they relate to cloud compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
