Position Overview:
As a Motor Coach Operator, you will be responsible for safely transporting passengers in a large motor coach (26,001 pounds or more) while ensuring a comfortable and professional experience.
Key Responsibilities:
This role encompasses a variety of tasks, and while the following list is representative, it is not exhaustive. You may be required to perform additional duties as assigned:
- Conduct thorough inspections of the motor coach to ensure safe operating conditions before, during, and after trips, submitting a detailed report on the vehicle's condition at the end of each journey.
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking.
- Drive the motor coach to designated locations, adhering to federal regulations, typically operating for up to 10 hours followed by a mandatory off-duty period of at least eight consecutive hours.
- Utilize your commercial driving expertise to navigate various driving conditions, including heavy traffic and adverse weather.
- Maintain accurate records for compliance with state and federal regulations, including driver logs, fuel purchase records, and mileage documentation.
- Handle frequent loading and unloading of passenger luggage.
- Follow all company policies and procedures while complying with federal, state, and local regulations regarding the safe operation of commercial vehicles.
- Promptly report any accidents or incidents involving the driver, passengers, or company equipment.
- Notify the dispatch department of any delays due to breakdowns, weather, traffic, or other emergencies.
- Plan and adjust routes effectively to accommodate changing circumstances.
- Ensure a secure and sanitary environment for passengers and maintain the cleanliness of the motor coach.
- Address maintenance issues and recognize when professional assistance is needed.
- Provide comfort and assistance to passengers in case of emergencies, within the limits of your training.
- Engage professionally with customers, accommodations, co-workers, and the public.
- Participate in regular drivers' meetings and communicate effectively with passengers.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B) with a passenger endorsement and pass the air brake test.
- Minimum age of 21 years for insurance purposes.
- Strong oral communication skills and the ability to read and understand English, including highway signs and official inquiries.
- Ability to follow instructions and take direction.
- Working knowledge of vehicle and safety control systems.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations regarding safe driving, hours of service, inspection, maintenance, and passenger transportation.
- Availability to accommodate passenger movement and be away from home for extended periods.
- Willingness to work irregular schedules and adapt to various weather conditions and driving challenges.
Minimum Educational Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED.
