Veterans Education Specialist

Wake Technical Community College is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Veterans Education Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Military, Veterans, and Special Programs division, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional support and guidance to our military and veteran students.
Job Summary:The Veterans Education Specialist will serve as a liaison between the college and the Department of Veterans Affairs, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and providing accurate information to students and staff. This role requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for working with diverse populations.
Responsibilities:- Serve as a VA School Certifying Official for veteran students receiving Federal GI Bill benefits
- Prepare and submit Veterans Affairs education benefits, certifications, and change of status reports to the Department of Veterans Affairs
- Review academic evaluations, enrollment, and student requirements to ensure compliance with DVA regulations
- Process changes in enrollment status for adds, drops, and schedule changes, and submit related reports to the Department of Veterans Affairs
- Provide exceptional customer service and support to military and veteran students, responding to inquiries via phone, email, and in-person
- Utilize in-person, written, and web-based materials to provide information and guidance to potential students and current students on veterans' educational benefits and eligibility
- Provide academic program advising to veterans and dependent students who are eligible to receive DVA education benefits, ensuring compliance with unique DVA policies and requirements
- Monitor VA-funded payments to students, resolve tuition payment and discrepancy issues, and investigate delays and clarification of payments with VA
- Assist with interpreting, explaining, and implementing VA policies as they relate to all aspects of veteran student aid
- Monitor veteran students' academic progress, course enrollment, and other reporting requirements to DVA
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports and correspondence
- Assist veteran students with answering routine and complex inquiries
- Conduct Veterans Affairs education benefits workshops as needed
- Associate's degree and one year of experience working with veteran benefits or other government regulation programs
- High School diploma (or equivalent) and three years' experience working with veteran benefits or other government regulation programs
- Previous experience working at a post-secondary institution
- Previous experience counseling veterans or students
