Non-Ferrous Clerk

Alter Trading Corporation, a leading privately held company in the scrap metal industry, is seeking a detail-oriented and energetic Scale Clerk to join its operations team.

Job Responsibilities

• Under supervision, oversee the processing and maintenance of accurate records for scrap materials received and/or shipped.
• Primary Responsibilities:
  • Visually verify inbound/outbound vehicles on scale deck; enter weight in computer.
  • Visually verify material type; enter code in computer.
  • Process payment of customers, verify information is correct and material ticket for corresponding customer and price is correct.
  • File appropriate paperwork to support scheduled payments to be made.
  • Answer incoming calls; give directions, handle questions and/or direct to appropriate area/person.
  • Sort completed checks, distribute original to customer and maintain copies and backup for filing.
  • Other responsibilities or duties as assigned.
• Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  • Math aptitude necessary, must be able to multi-task when handling customers and vendors in person, on the phone, etc.
  • Candidate must have the ability to develop effective working relationships with customers and vendors.
  • General knowledge of difference between ferrous and non-ferrous material preferred.
