Job Overview:
The role of a Custodian involves performing both manual and equipment-assisted cleaning and maintenance tasks. The primary responsibility is to ensure the cleanliness, appearance, and sanitation of designated facilities through the proper use of materials, products, and equipment. This position includes conducting safety inspections and monitoring mechanical systems. Custodians may also be assigned to specialized teams such as the carpet crew or grounds crew, or other district-wide custodial responsibilities.
Salary: Grade 5S: $31.08 DOE
Work Hours: 7.5 hours per day (Monday - Friday 3pm - 11pm)
Work Year: 10 months
Bargaining Unit: Education Support Staff Association (ESSA)
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Physical fitness, strength, agility, and stamina to work on ladders, scaffolding, and roofs; ability to lift at least 50 lbs. waist high, stand for extended periods, and perform light to medium manual tasks such as digging and snow shoveling safely.
- Ability to execute assigned duties with minimal training.
- Basic knowledge of minor building maintenance.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and following written and verbal instructions in English.
- Strong customer service and communication skills in English are essential for weekend building rental monitors.
- A valid State of Alaska driver's license may be required depending on specific duties and work locations.
