Job Title: Registered Respiratory Therapist

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at The University of Chicago Medicine, Ingalls Memorial Hospital as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) at our Harvey, Illinois location. In this role, you will work with physicians and nursing staff to access, implement, and perform respiratory care procedures for our patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain departmental productivity and efficient operation of the department per established standards.
  • Exhibit timely and satisfactory completion of patient assignments with minimal assistance.
  • Incurs no overtime unless requested and approved by lead therapist.
  • Explain procedures and protocols of the therapy to the patient and family members.
  • Maintain one-on-one relationship with patient during course of care.
  • Follow proper identification procedures prior to giving care.
  • Read prescriptions prepared by physicians to determine indications for treatment.
  • Able to determine the most appropriate modality of respiratory care for patient and inform physician when indicated.
  • Notify nurse or physician of any adverse reaction.
  • Instruct patient in proper breathing techniques.
  • Maintain information in the patient's chart and department records at all times.
  • Competent in radial and capillary blood gas punctures and proficient in blood gas interpretation.
  • Utilize all monitoring and diagnostic equipment by following established procedures.
Requirements:
  • Completion of an AMA-approved RRT program.
  • Basic Life Support Certification through The American Heart Association.
  • Must achieve RRT credential from The National Board for Respiratory Care within 6 months of hire.
  • Copy of academic diploma or transcript.
  • Therapist must have NBRC RRT credentials to be trained for critical care.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professionally minded, ambitious to advance in profession, tact and courtesy essential.
