Gestalt Community Schools is a network of K-12 college-preparatory charter institutions located in select Tennessee areas. Rather than questioning whether education influences the community or vice versa, GCS is committed to the belief that the most effective way to enhance student success is through the integration of education and community (a true "gestalt").
The individual in this role is tasked with designing and delivering suitable learning experiences for students with disabilities across various educational environments. This position requires the creation of a dynamic program and learning atmosphere that offers specialized instruction tailored to the needs of students with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Utilize specialized educational strategies and methods during instruction to enhance the development of sensory and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
- Deliver instruction in academic subjects employing diverse techniques such as phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition to cater to students' varying needs and interests.
- Teach socially acceptable behaviors as outlined in students' individualized education programs (IEPs) by implementing techniques within a comprehensive positive behavioral support framework.
- Adapt the general education curriculum for students with disabilities using a range of instructional techniques and technologies.
- Organize and conduct activities for a well-rounded instructional program that allows students to observe, question, and explore.
- Establish and uphold behavioral rules and procedures to maintain a conducive learning environment for all students.
- Engage with parents to discuss their children's progress and identify priorities for their educational needs.
- Collaborate with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) aimed at promoting students' educational, physical, and social/emotional growth.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive student records and prepare reports on children and activities as mandated by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
- Set clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate these objectives to students.
- Develop plans for effective communication, monitoring, and follow-up of students in inclusive classroom settings.
- Provide crisis intervention as necessary for students and those in inclusive classrooms.
- Assist in data collection to implement appropriate classroom interventions.
- Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team as required.
- Help prepare data for local, state, and federal reporting.
- Enhance professional competence by engaging in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities.
- Ensure compliance and reporting obligations for scholars and the assigned location.
- Perform related duties as necessary.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
- Possess a current TN teaching license in Special Education or Interventionist with the appropriate endorsement codes (Required).
- A bachelor's degree or higher.
- Demonstrated history of academic success as evidenced by TVAAS, state assessments, and value-added data (Preferred).
- Belief that all students can achieve high academic standards.
- Proficient in using digital content, technology integration, and project-based learning.
- Able to work in an extended day environment.
- Experience teaching in an inclusive setting alongside a co-teacher.
- Strong communication and writing skills.
- A collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
