About the Job:

The Counselor IV plays a vital role in providing treatment and support to clients recovering from addictions, behavioral problems, and other mental health issues. This position requires a strong understanding of counseling principles and techniques, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in client treatment planning and continuum of care.
  • Conduct group and/or family sessions, under supervision, as scheduled and document as required.
  • Co-facilitate assigned group or family sessions and assist with modifying problem behaviors.
  • Responsible for initial assessments, as well as follow-up assessments for clients.
  • Prepare individual treatment plans for each assigned client.
  • Ensure all documentation regarding client care, treatment, and incidents is completed timely and in a clear, concise manner.
  • Act as a liaison between referral sources and clients.
  • Provide crisis intervention to clients, as needed.
  • Plan for aftercare for assigned clients.
  • Act as a liaison with insurance carriers, as requested.
  • Provide case management duties for clients, ensuring individualized quality care.
  • Evaluate the need of the client and determine if referrals to other programs or facilities are needed.
  • Provide client and family education relative to substance abuse/psychiatric problems.
  • Conduct educational workshops both within the Facility and in the community, as required.
  • Serve as a liaison with self-help groups and EAP professionals.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of chemical dependence services required by the Facility treatment programs.
  • Assist in the training of new clinical staff and interns, providing direction and clinical guidance.
  • Coordinate the activities of other clinical and direct client care staff, providing direction and clinical guidance.
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in social or health services field, with 6+ years of experience in the counseling field; or a Bachelor's degree in other field with 8+ years of experience in the counseling field; or a Master's degree in social or health services field, with 4+ years of professional work experience.
  • Degree must be from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensure or certification for counseling may be required by the state in which the facility operates.
  • CAP - Professional substance abuse counselor certification.
  • CPR and de-escalation certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility.
