Marion County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Deputy Sheriff to join our Institutions team. You will also ensure due process rights of adults in custody in disciplinary matters and maintain their access to materials, services, and privileges according to the law.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain security, sanitation, health, and medical standards by supervising adults in custody.
  • Ensure due process rights of adults in custody in disciplinary matters.
  • Maintain adults' access to materials, services, and privileges according to the law.
  • Adhere to, implement, and enforce job-related rules, policies, procedures, and post orders.
  • Attend and participate in facility and unit briefings, meetings, and training.
  • Initiate and maintain neat, accurate, and complete reports, memos, disciplinary reports, logbooks, and unit rosters.
  • Work in a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week facility, which may require working day, swing, and night shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Remain constantly alert and observant throughout the shift.
  • Control access to and egress from the facility.
  • Conduct visual adult welfare checks and counts, equipment, and facility structural inspections.
  • Conduct tactile-clothed and visual-unclothed searches of adults to discover contraband and ensure their welfare while incarcerated.
  • Conduct area searches to detect contraband or deficiencies in the security systems or physical structure of the facility.
  • Transport and escort adults inside and outside the facility.
  • Respond to and assist other staff in managing emergency situations.
  • Use approved facility restraints in controlling adults.
  • Operate fire-fighting equipment in suppressing institutional fires.
  • Maintain and use firearms.
  • Monitor audio traffic on radios, telephones, and intercommunication systems and act as the central dispatch for the entire facility in routine and emergency situations.
  • Control, issue, and record the issuance of keys and radios.
  • Monitor auditory and visual emergency alarm systems.
  • Coordinate directly with the incident commander during emergency situations.
  • Use audio-visual surveillance equipment to monitor movement in the hallways of the facility.
  • Verbally provide instructions and orders to adults in custody over the intercom for the safe, secure, and orderly operation of the facility.
Requirements:
  • Meet the State Department of Public Safety Standards and Training requirements.
  • Meet the Marion County requirements.
Additional Requirements for Certified Level:
  1. Meet trainee level requirements and have eighteen months of experience as a corrections officer or deputy.
  2. Possess a Basic Corrections Officer certification from the Department of Public Safety, Standards and Training (DPSST).
Three Steps to Move Forward:
  1. Complete one of the following academic proficiencies:
  • Recent REACT test with NTN.
  • Possess a four-year, post-secondary degree issued by an accredited, degree-granting college or university recognized by the Oregon Office of Degree Authorization under the provisions of ORS.
  • Successfully completed training resulting in the award of Basic Corrections certification from Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST).
Complete one of the following physical proficiencies:
  • Recent Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT) completed time from an Oregon Law Enforcement organization or authorized testing agency (NTN).
  • Recent Physical Abilities Test (PAT) completed time from a Military or Law Enforcement related source.
  • Successfully completed training resulting in the award of Basic Corrections certification from Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST).
Complete the NEOGOV (Marion County Sheriff's Office) application.
