As a Certified Nursing Assistant II, you will work as a member of the nursing team under the supervision of the Registered Nurse on assignments that are routine in nature and within authorized duties of the CNA 2 Acute Care. Your tasks will have predetermined procedures and guidance, and supervision will be provided as needed. You will support the RN in patient care delivery as dictated by comfort and safety and in accordance with identified training and certification.
Key Responsibilities- Problem Solving: Work tasks are fully defined. Refer more difficult issues to RN.
- Decision-Making: Use judgment to perform tasks. Accept accountability for own actions.
- Compliance Accountability: Consistently support compliance and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanente Code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements (if applicable), and Kaiser Permanente policies and procedures.
- Communication Skills: Demonstrate effective written/verbal communication. Document and relay messages or instructions accurately. Report patient information on a timely basis. Verify understanding of information and ask for clarification when necessary. Document accurately to reflect understanding of assigned tasks. Confront difficult or conflict situations constructively.
- Service Orientation: Demonstrate a commitment to service. Contribute to a positive patient care experience. Anticipate the customers desires and take proactive steps to meet those needs. Recognize the diversity and cultural norms of the individual. Seek assistance when needed in culturally sensitive situations.
- Assessment or Observation Skills: Obtain vital signs and collect data; report values outside given parameters. Report observations. Report outcomes of assigned nursing care tasks.
- Critical Thinking Skills (including strategic and systems thinking): Demonstrate the ability to problem solve. Identify resources and use them when confronted with a problem. Prioritize assigned tasks and work or seek assistance appropriately. Demonstrate understanding of how Kaiser Permanente key systems affect services and quality of care.
- Technology Skills: Demonstrate technological literacy in using computerized information systems related to assignments. Demonstrate technical knowledge of clinical procedures and use of special equipment as assigned.
- Knowledge: Attend mandatory inservices related to patient care and others as appropriate. Display clinical knowledge appropriate to education/training and assigned tasks. Assist in identifying own learning needs. Seek assistance when doing an unfamiliar task/activity, or when unable to perform an assigned task/activity. Take responsibility to keep informed of organizational policies and current information in policy and procedure manuals and unit communications.
- Legal & Ethical Responsibilities: Provide care and assist patients within the limits of the authorized duties for CNA 2 Acute Care consistent with those defined by the state. Demonstrate knowledge of the legal responsibilities, limitations and implications of their actions. Provide care in compliance with government, state or regulatory agencies (e.g. Medicare). Adhere to and support KP policies and Principles of Responsibility. Adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality policies. Demonstrate accepted ethical practices with respect to cultural, social and ethnic differences, within the healthcare environment (e.g. CLAS standards).
- Team Focus (Teamwork): Interact effectively and sensitively with all members of the healthcare team. Demonstrate flexibility as a team member. Collaborate with team members and support the goals of the team. Support a collaborative LMP environment. Assist others with patient care activities when own assignment is completed. Maintain an acceptable attendance record. Participate in unit-based activities, including staff meetings.
- Leadership & Change Management: Identify and support new ideas. Demonstrate the ability to support change efforts within the team or unit. Assist in orienting and mentoring new team members. Act as a resource to other team members.
- Performs Tasks & Procedures (Implementation): Perform assigned tasks competently and demonstrate operational knowledge of procedures, therapies, special tests and equipment within scope of knowledge and training. Vital Signs. Temperature. Pulse. Respiration. B/P - manual and electronic. Pain Level. Pulse oximetry. Warm and cold therapies. Warm and cold compresses. Ice bags, ice gloves, or dry cold pack. Heated soaks and whirlpool or sitz baths. Data gathering. Newborn hearing screening (Maternal/Child). Replacing electrodes and leads on monitored unit. Bladder scanning. Capillary blood glucose (CBG) testing. Placing electrodes and leads and/or running 12-lead electrocardiogram or three lead rhythm strips. Testing of gastric contents and stool for occult blood and pH. Applying topical over-the-counter creams and ointment(s) for prophylactic treatment for skin conditions. Applying pediculicides. Applying sequential compression devices. Assist patient to cough and dry breathe. Suctioning oral pharynx. Turning oxygen on and off at pre-established flow rate. Using incentive spirometry. Clean ostomy site and change dressing or appliances for established, non-acute ostomies on intact skin. Collect clean catch urine specimens. Discontinue Foley catheter at direction of RN. Measure, record, and/or empty output from drainage devices and closed drainage systems. Demonstrate department, job and age-specific competencies.
- Safety Practices: Promote a safe patient environment by proactively reporting errors, near misses or systemic hazards and participating in their resolution. Promote patient safety through diligent adherence to policies and procedures. Maintain a safe, ergonomically correct, and hazard-free environment for patient, visitors, staff and self. Prevent injury or illness through proactive, safe work practices and follows health and safety policies and procedures. Regularly observe fire and life safety policies and procedures. Complete environmental and health safety training per policies. Demonstrate the use of defined emergency response procedures.
