Compensation and Benefits
The Veterans Health Administration provides a comprehensive total rewards package.
Salary: Competitive salary, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increments.
Leave: 50-55 days of paid time off annually (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays, and potentially 5 days for Continuing Medical Education).
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with contributions up to 5% by the agency.
Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance (many federal insurance programs are transferable into retirement).
Licensure: Must hold a full and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. State or territory.
Continuing Medical Education: Possible reimbursement of up to $1,000 per year (must be full-time with board certification).
Malpractice Coverage: Liability protection with tail coverage included.
Contractual Obligations: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restrictions on additional employment.
The Otolaryngologist will be responsible for delivering all services related to Otolaryngology within the VA system, adhering to clinical privileges, and ensuring proper documentation in electronic health records.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting comprehensive medical history reviews and detailed physical examinations.
- Interpreting laboratory and diagnostic findings.
- Diagnosing Otolaryngology conditions and assisting or performing surgical procedures in clinical settings.
- Assessing and managing diseases of the Ear, Nose, and Throat, along with surgical conditions.
- Conducting screening examinations and completing history and physicals as well as progress notes.
- Performing basic diagnostic procedures.
- Prescribing medications for both inpatient and outpatient care.
- Issuing appropriate orders for inpatient and outpatient services.
Employment Conditions
- U.S. Citizenship is required; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.

- Selective Service Registration is mandatory for males born after December 31, 1959.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential.
- Probationary period may be required.
- Background/security investigation is mandatory.
- Completion of an online onboarding process is required for selected candidates.
- Pre-employment physical examination must be passed.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all VA Health Care Personnel.
- Compliance with the COVID-19 vaccination program is mandatory for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel.
To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the basic requirements and any additional qualifications specified in the job announcement. Candidates pending completion of training or licensure may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled.
Basic Requirements:

- Medical degree (Doctor of Medicine or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
- Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth.
- Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification eligibility.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Board Certification or eligibility in the specified specialty is preferred.
Physical Requirements: In accordance with VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
Education
Medical degree (Doctor of Medicine or equivalent) from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
