Everett, Washington, United States The Boeing Company Full time
Job Overview

At Boeing, we are dedicated to innovation and teamwork to enhance the world we live in.

From the depths of the ocean to the vastness of space, you can engage in meaningful work with a company that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We strive to create a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for all team members, offering excellent opportunities for professional advancement.

Discover your future with us.

The Boeing Research and Technology (BR&T) division is currently seeking a Systems Engineer (Level 4 or 5) to join our dynamic team.

We are looking for candidates with varying levels of experience, including those at lead or senior levels.

The X-66 program team collaborates closely with internal stakeholders and NASA to develop the Sustainable Flight Demonstrator (SFD) and to conduct flight tests of the Transonic Truss-Braced Wing (TTBW) Configuration.

In partnership with NASA, Boeing is working on the X-66, an experimental aircraft aimed at helping the United States reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

This aircraft features long, slender wings supported by aerodynamic trusses, known as a Transonic Truss-Braced Wing.

The X-66 is the first experimental aircraft specifically designed to support the United States' objective of achieving net-zero aviation greenhouse gas emissions, presenting unique engineering challenges compared to conventional commercial aircraft designs.

We are a geographically diverse organization seeking innovative, passionate, and highly collaborative individuals to assist in the design architecture, ensuring system safety, quality, integrity, and mission success.

We offer opportunities for those looking to advance their careers in systems engineering and integration, contributing to a unique Boeing-NASA partnership focused on demonstrating and testing technologies that could lead to breakthroughs in sustainable aviation and inform the designs of future single-aisle aircraft.

The distinctive nature of this experimental aircraft makes the X-66 program an excellent opportunity to observe how both commercial and defense aerospace programs are executed within a rapid timeline.

The Systems Engineering Team is responsible for developing and executing the X-66 Systems Engineering Management Plan, working closely with program teams (software engineering, safety engineering, design, integration, testing, and more) to establish requirements, evaluate architectures and designs, identify safety risks, develop mitigations, and verify that final designs meet program objectives.

This role is ideal for individuals with strong critical thinking abilities and the capacity to collaborate effectively in a diverse and geographically distributed environment.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are also essential for this position.

Key Responsibilities:
• Define requirements for aircraft, systems, and systems of systems
• Lead the development of Concept of Operations (CONOPS)
• Oversee functional architecture and decomposition
• Track Risks, Issues, and Opportunities (RIO)

• Employ an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop, and verify complex lifecycle balanced systems and solutions.

• Assess customer and operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters, and ensure compatibility of all physical, functional, and program interfaces.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited program in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
• 3+ years of experience leading technical teams
• Experience in requirements validation/verification, functional integration, inter/intra-systems analysis, and Concept of Operations development
• Proven experience collaborating with cross-functional teams on projects and initiatives

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
• 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience in effectively communicating with diverse audiences
• Familiarity with model-based engineering (MBE) or model-based systems engineering (MBSE), including model-based process and tool application or development
• Experience in leading systems design, systems analysis, and/or systems integration
• Experience in both commercial and military programs

Typical Education/Experience:

Lead (Level 4):
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry (e.g., Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g., PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 5):
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry (e.g., Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g., PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
