Overview

This role involves providing both onsite and remote assistance to the Department of Energy's Loan Programs Office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support senior management in specialized project tasks by conducting necessary evaluations of credit and project risks associated with substantial loans for innovative clean energy initiatives and advanced technology manufacturing.
  • Gather and analyze research materials to bolster risk assessment activities, including financial documents, collateral evaluations, and relevant news sources.
  • Assess borrowers and guarantors of large-scale projects to identify potential indicators of credit decline.
  • Collaborate with teams to address the technical, legal, and financial feasibility of transactions, utilizing research to prepare essential background information for loan negotiations.
  • Prepare business correspondence, analytical reports, and presentations to clarify financial models.
  • Serve as a credit and financial analyst within the credit and risk management teams.
  • Evaluate the credit and investment risks associated with loans, guarantees, and investment activities; identify, measure, and mitigate risks of new transactions while providing recommendations on deal structuring and pricing strategies.
  • Formulate and review financial and credit risk management policies, ensuring alignment with best practices through appropriate systems and procedures.
Qualifications

  • Must be a US Citizen to obtain client-issued Public Trust.
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Expertise in project and corporate finance to assess borrower viability.
  • Proficient in researching financial structures, including corporate and asset-based financing, to make informed financial decisions.
  • Ability to conduct complex financial analyses and make sound judgments.
  • Knowledge of negotiation and underwriting processes for large-scale project borrowers and guarantors.
  • Familiarity with credit-enhancing strategies, risk mitigation, and collateral management.
  • In-depth understanding of credit risk analysis and procedures in complex global financial environments.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively on teams addressing the technical, legal, and financial aspects of high-value loans.
  • Demonstrated experience in credit risk assessment across major industrial sectors, particularly in project lending.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and proficiency in business writing.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree
