Nursery Stock Care Specialist

This position is located in the Grounds Management Division of the Parks and Recreation Department within Oklahoma City Inc. and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. The successful candidate will perform various tasks related to the routine care and maintenance of nursery stock and equipment, including planting and transplanting seeds, bulbs, and cuttings, preparing, cleaning, and weeding flower beds, fertilizing, mowing, and edging grounds, pruning trees and shrubs, operating water trucks or various other vehicles to facilitate plant care, and the routine cleaning and maintenance of hand tools and equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine and repetitive tasks with minimal supervision

- Operate standard garden tools and equipment
- Follow safe working practices and procedures
- Knowledge of and skill in applying general plant care

- Ability to carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision
Frequently outside, exposed to heat, cold, humidity, rain, etc. Will work near moving objects such as traffic and machinery. Exposed to steady and fairly loud noises caused by machinery. Exposed to high amounts of dust. Exposed to allergy-causing agents such as bee or wasp stings; fiddle-back spiders; and poison oak, ivy, and sumac, etc. Frequently exposed to toxins and chemical irritants such as pesticides. Frequently required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays. Local travel on a daily basis.
Physical RequirementsStrength enough to lift, push, pull, or carry objects weighing up to 90 pounds such as tree limbs and machinery. Stamina enough to exert oneself physically throughout the workday. Flexibility enough to bend, twist, and reach out to load and unload equipment on and off trucks. Mobility enough to continually move oneself from place to place. Arm/hand steadiness and finger dexterity enough to graft plants. Manual dexterity and near vision enough to use hand tools and equipment. Far vision enough to observe oncoming traffic. Visual color discrimination enough to identify plants and section flowers by color. Hearing enough to distinguish directions of sounds, such as traffic or moving equipment.
