Hours: Part time, 20 hours per week (schedule includes daytime, evening and weekend hours)
Job Objective
To advance the mission and values of the Greene County Public Library. To implement objectives and goals of the strategic plan to enhance community service. To execute a variety of library circulation and clerical duties while ensuring exceptional customer service. To operate under direct supervision but may occasionally work independently, solving problems and assisting patrons autonomously.
Requirements
Essential Job Functions
- Processes checkouts and check-ins of materials using a computerized system; collects fines and fees for lost items; enters renewals and reservations for materials; registers borrowers; addresses circulation inquiries from patrons in person or via phone.
- Responsible for organizing materials for shelving including book-drop, delivery, returns, etc.
- Manages incomplete or damaged items.
- Supervises circulation hold shelf.
- Handles the Paging List, runs Search Ohio and Clear hold-shelf reports, prepares requested items for Resource Sharing.
- Conducts opening and closing procedures, including managing fine transactions.
- Processes new acquisitions and donations.
- Handles withdrawn materials.
- Repairs and repackages damaged items.
- Participates in conferences, workshops, seminars, and training to maintain knowledge as outlined in training curriculum.
- Stays informed by regularly reviewing email, minutes, and staff website as well as attending staff meetings.
- The supervisor may assign other related duties such as sorting mail and ordering supplies; these tasks are nonessential functions of this position.
- Performs tasks of lower-level classifications as necessary.
- Ability to deliver knowledgeable customer service to assist all library patrons promptly; demonstrate tact and courtesy in interactions with the public and fellow staff members.
- Ability to communicate clearly and comprehend printed and on-screen information.
- Proficient computer skills and ability to input information into an automated system.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, work in a fast-paced environment, and handle challenging situations.
- Some knowledge of library clerical principles, methods, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to address routine problems under the guidance of a supervisor and keep the supervisor informed of departmental needs and concerns.
- High School Diploma; or equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skill, and ability.
Environmental Conditions
- Work is performed in an office-like environment, requiring considerable mobility: light lifting, bending, stooping, stretching, and sitting at various desks and service points.
- Employee may be scheduled to work evening and weekend hours; schedules may be adjusted based on library needs.
Library staff receive a comprehensive range of benefits based on their position classification and the number of hours worked per week.
- The library contributes an amount equal to 14% of each employee's salary into the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System, with the employee contributing 10% to OPERS.
- The library contributes a percentage of the employee's salary for Medicare.
