Position Summary:

The Packaging Operations Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing partnerships with external co-packers to guarantee efficient, premium-quality, and economically viable meat processing and packaging. This position involves orchestrating production timelines, ensuring adherence to safety and quality protocols, and managing the logistical elements of product distribution.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Oversight

  • Schedule Coordination: Collaborate with co-packers to establish and uphold production timelines that align with company requirements and customer demands.
  • Performance Monitoring: Assess production metrics, such as output, quality, and efficiency, to ensure co-packers fulfill performance expectations.
  • Issue Resolution: Tackle production challenges swiftly to minimize interruptions and maintain product integrity.

Quality Control

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all co-packing operations conform to industry standards, company policies, and food safety regulations.
  • Facility Audits: Conduct routine inspections of co-packing facilities to confirm compliance with quality and safety benchmarks.
  • Process Enhancement: Collaborate with co-packers to introduce process improvements and corrective measures when quality concerns arise.

Relationship Development

  • Vendor Relations: Cultivate robust partnerships with co-packing vendors, negotiating contracts, terms, and conditions.
  • Effective Communication: Act as the primary liaison between the organization and co-packers, ensuring clear and efficient communication.
  • Conflict Management: Address and resolve any disputes or issues that may occur with co-packers.

Logistics and Inventory Management

  • Logistical Coordination: Oversee the logistics of transporting products to and from co-packing facilities, ensuring timely delivery and receipt.
  • Inventory Oversight: Monitor stock levels to guarantee adequate raw materials and finished goods are available to meet production requirements.

Financial Oversight

  • Cost Management: Track and manage expenses related to co-packing, identifying opportunities to reduce costs without sacrificing quality.
  • Budget Assistance: Support the preparation and management of the co-packing budget.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree: In a relevant field, though not mandatory.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years in a plant environment within the meat industry or food processing, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Industry Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of meat processing, food safety regulations, and quality assurance.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven capability to lead and manage teams effectively.
