Key Responsibilities of the Ship Repair Superintendent

Project Management:
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee ship repair and maintenance projects from inception to completion.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, encompassing schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure that all repair and maintenance activities comply with the necessary quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Team Leadership and Coordination:
  • Lead and manage repair teams, including skilled tradespeople, technicians, and subcontractors.
  • Provide guidance, support, and training to team members to ensure optimal performance and adherence to safety protocols.
Quality Control and Safety:
  • Implement and oversee quality control measures to guarantee that all work is executed to the highest standards.
  • Enforce safety regulations and protocols to maintain a secure working environment and prevent accidents or incidents.
Client and Stakeholder Relations:
  • Serve as the primary liaison for clients and stakeholders regarding ship repair projects.
  • Address client inquiries, provide project updates, and manage expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Resolve any issues or concerns that arise during the repair process.
Budget and Resource Management:
  • Develop and manage project budgets, including labor, materials, and equipment costs.
  • Monitor and control project expenditures to ensure cost-effectiveness and adherence to budget constraints.
  • Coordinate the procurement of materials and equipment necessary for repair projects.
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all repair activities, including work performed, parts used, and compliance with regulations.
  • Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior management, highlighting key milestones, challenges, and outcomes.
Position Requirements for Ship Repair Superintendent:
  • 5-10 years of experience in Marine Construction Supervision, with tradesman experience at the journeyman level in a Marine Construction Field.
  • BA/BS plus 2 years in a related field or AA/AS plus 4 years of directly related experience.
  • Proficient computer skills in Outlook, Excel, and Project.
  • Knowledge of modern shipbuilding practices, including the creation and use of build strategies, master schedules, product work breakdown structures, material requirement planning, product modeling, work order creation, budgeting, resource loading, and detailed scheduling.
  • Previous journey-level experience in a shipbuilding trade.
