Support and Development: Each Special Education teacher at Henderson Collegiate is paired with an instructional coach dedicated to assisting you in mastering the intricacies of student learning and delivering challenging content. You will benefit from regular observations and personalized meetings with your coach to enhance your teaching abilities and address student learning gaps.

Qualifications: A bachelor's degree is mandatory, with a salary range of $46,000 to $78,000 based on educational background and experience. Candidates must possess or be actively pursuing a Special Education teaching certification.

About Us: Henderson Collegiate is a mission-driven public college preparatory institution located in rural Henderson, NC, with a steadfast commitment to character development and academic success. We emphasize a balance of 51% character education and 49% academic instruction, ensuring that we dedicate time to instilling essential character traits in our students.

Our institution serves a diverse student body from historically underserved communities, with approximately 85% qualifying for free or reduced-price meals and around 94% identifying as students of color. Despite these challenges, we consistently rank among the top 9.7% of all NC schools and the top 1.3% of NC Title I schools. Your Responsibilities:

  • Bring your best. Exhibit stamina and the ability to set and achieve ambitious goals while thriving in a high-performing educational environment.
  • Develop your curriculum. Engage in the intellectual preparation necessary to create rigorous assessments, unit plans, lesson plans, and instructional materials that ignite student passion for learning.
  • Deliver impactful instruction. Lead students dynamically in both whole-class and small-group settings, fostering intellectual curiosity and adjusting teaching methods based on qualitative and quantitative data to meet diverse student needs.
  • Uphold high standards. Implement and maintain Henderson Collegiate's values, policies, and systems to effectively manage a classroom and guide students toward achieving exceptional academic and character-based expectations.
  • Commit to growth. Engage in constructive feedback exchanges with colleagues to foster a professional atmosphere focused on excellence and continuous improvement, including participation in pre-service training and ongoing professional development.

Additional Information:

  • Requirements: All candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree and possess or be pursuing certification in Special Education.
  • Preferred Experience: Previous experience teaching in low-income communities is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Compensation: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience, with a comprehensive benefits package available. Teachers are provided with a laptop and necessary classroom technology.
  • Work Schedule: The school day for staff runs from 7:20 am to 4:15 pm, with an expectation of one extended day per week for professional development.
