Job Summary:

The United Cerebral Palsy of Central Florida Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher - Visually Impaired to join our team. As a key member of our educational services department, you will play a vital role in providing direct and consultative special education services to students with visual impairments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Interpret medical eye reports to inform educational environments and develop individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs of students with visual impairments.
  • Collaborate with diagnosticians, classroom teachers, students, and parents to ensure that students receive appropriate evaluations, modifications, and accommodations.
  • Provide training and support to parents of students with visual impairments to enhance their children's independence and self-advocacy skills.
  • Develop and implement exceptional student education procedures and provisions to ensure that students with visual impairments have equal access to education and opportunities.
  • Participate in team assessments and transition planning to ensure that students with visual impairments receive comprehensive support and services.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research, technologies, and best practices in special education and visually impaired education to provide high-quality services to students.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher in Exceptional Education or Elementary Education (or equivalent)
  • Florida Statement of Eligibility or Professional Teaching Certificate
  • Teacher of Visually Impaired certification
  • 1-3 years of teaching experience, including internship
  • Experience working with students with deaf/hard of hearing (DHH) and using instructional technology
  • Knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP), early childhood development, and the learning process
  • Ability to work cooperatively with parents and staff to provide comprehensive support to students with visual impairments
