Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Patient Safety Observer to join our team at UMass Memorial Health. As a Patient Safety Observer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the healthcare industry and work with a talented team of professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and maintain good human relations skills, introducing yourself to patients and engaging in eye contact.
  2. Consistently observe for suicidal and/or violent behavior, staying in close proximity of the patient and keeping them in the visual field at all times.
  3. Monitor visitors to ensure no unsafe materials are shared with the patient, including weapons, illicit drugs, and sharps.
  4. Maintain 15-minute checks with documentation, unless otherwise directed.
  5. Follow the directions of the nurse in charge and transport patients as needed.
  6. Perform other ancillary activities as directed by the nursing supervisor, such as making beds in the ED or stocking.
  7. Function in a float position and be assigned to areas with patient needs.
  8. Maintain patient dignity at all times and advocate for the patient.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
Working Conditions

This role requires standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods. You will also be required to use your hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, and push/pull objects as needed. You may be exposed to wet, humid conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, and be at risk of radiation or infectious diseases.
