The Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) Engineer is tasked with managing the timing components of Assured PNT systems, guaranteeing accurate synchronization and peak performance. This role is vital in the design, assessment, sourcing, and validation of timing parameters to fulfill rigorous standards across various applications, including timing software, high-precision clocks, and enhancements for current and future Assured PNT offerings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design timing frameworks for advanced and upcoming clock technologies.
- Lead timing evaluation and design initiatives throughout the product development cycle.
- Conduct thorough mobile and dynamic timing assessments utilizing industry-standard tools and equipment to confirm timing scenarios.
- Perform comparative analyses and trade-off evaluations on existing oscillators, focusing on low phase noise and high holdover precision.
- Develop algorithms and methodologies to advance clock data analysis and its applications.
- Oversee the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of software, systems, and technologies related to timing in Assured PNT products.
- Possess expertise in PNT to comprehend and assess systems engineering tasks.
- Evaluate new technologies suitable for AEVEX's applications, ensuring they securely scale to meet the strategic growth objectives of the organization based on current and future performance goals.
Additionally, the role requires:
- The ability to lead and collaborate effectively in development efforts while providing innovative and creative solutions.
- Close interaction with customers and partners to grasp the state of the possible and establish requirements based on the Voice of the Customer (VOC).
- Execution of other assigned responsibilities.
Standard Responsibilities:
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance on a full-time basis or as per the posted schedule.
- Exhibit professional behavior with both internal and external business associates, reflecting positively on the company and adhering to its policies and practices.
- Embody AEVEX's cultural values and align daily actions with departmental goals and company culture.
Qualifications:
- Understanding of principles and development support for various oscillators, including atomic clocks, quartz clocks (TCXO), rubidium, micro-rubidium, low SWaP atomic frequency sources, OCXO, MEMS, etc.
- Familiarity with precision and holdover timing algorithms, hardware, and solutions.
- Knowledge of advanced oscillator disciplining techniques using multi-GNSS signals and clock steering.
- Comprehension of maintaining frequency-time scales during prolonged GNSS outages.
- Hands-on experience with tools for frequency checking, stability testing, and characterizing clock performance for mobile and dynamic platforms.
- Management of laboratory environments, hardware test setups, and testing for timescales.
- Strong scripting capabilities.
- Understanding of TOA/TDOA principles.
- Knowledge of external timing sources, such as LEO signals for oscillator discipline.
- Strategic thinking with a strong problem-solving aptitude.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in providing technical leadership, mentoring, and customer support.
Education / Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in PNT technology required.
- Experience in time-frequency analysis.
- Background in the aerospace or defense industry is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Constantly required to sit and reach to use computers and other office equipment.
- Constantly required to perform repetitive movements of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Security Clearance:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret DoD clearance; U.S. Citizenship is required.
