Position Overview: Our client, a distinguished manufacturer in the precast concrete sector, is seeking a Chief Estimator with extensive experience in precast concrete to enhance their skilled workforce. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 7 years of experience in estimating for bridge construction and rehabilitation, complemented by a degree in civil or structural engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Examine contract documents to identify the precast scope of work, including various project types such as parking structures, educational institutions, correctional facilities, and other establishments that require innovative concrete solutions.
  • Conduct precise takeoffs of precast components.
  • Employ Excel spreadsheets to analyze costs related to plant operations, freight, and field activities associated with the projects.
  • Develop comprehensive estimates.
  • Continuously create, modify, and enhance the estimating program and reports using Excel.
  • Offer recommendations for improving cost estimating procedures to minimize discrepancies between estimated and actual costs.
  • Maintain a detailed post-project analysis report.
  • Draft project proposals.
  • Engage with clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders to discuss estimates and address any arising issues.
  • Perform cost analyses of precast framing systems, exploring value engineering options and other necessary solutions.
  • Track weekly plant reports comparing estimated versus actual costs.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of engineering principles.

Database Management: Organize and oversee a centralized cost estimating database along with a formalized process to support cost estimation activities.

  • Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs against actual expenditures and identify reasons for any variances.
  • Regularly update material costs on a quarterly basis.

Qualifications:

  • Education: An Associate's Degree is preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 7 to 10 years of relevant precast experience is preferred, with similar experience being considered.
  • Supervisory Experience: Required.
