Job Summary

The Ada County Landfill is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for the safe operation of heavy equipment at the landfill, ensuring efficient and safe waste management practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment, including forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders, in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform pre- and post-operation inspections of equipment to ensure it is in good working condition.
  • Monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials and take corrective action as needed.
  • Continuously monitor the condition of equipment to ensure it is always operational and ready for use.
  • Perform minor service on equipment and document maintenance activities.
  • Follow and enforce all required safety policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Minimum of one year of experience in equipment operation.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
  • Knowledge of construction materials and methods.
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the operation of heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively with contractors and crews.
  • Ability to perform general maintenance and service requirements of equipment.
  • Ability to detect needed repairs and make necessary adjustments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Working Conditions

The incumbent will be required to wear protective clothing and equipment when handling wastes and responding to spills. The incumbent is exposed to dust, hot water, cuts and burns, and may be exposed to refrigerant gases and landfill gas. May be required to work weekends, nights, holidays, and on an on-call basis.
