About the Role:

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of aviation safety and innovation as a Certification Engineer at RTX. As a key member of the Certification and Structures team, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the stringent FAA certification process for commercial aircraft seats and seating components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive innovation by undertaking significant engineering assignments and employing expertise to select optimal engineering techniques for problem-solving and design decisions.
  • Represent the Certification and Structures team in critical design reviews, ensuring that all perspectives are considered in the decision-making process.
  • Champion compliance by compiling comprehensive FAA certification documentation for submission to commercial aircraft OEMs and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure excellence by reviewing and approving design changes from a certification perspective, ensuring that all modifications meet regulatory requirements.
  • Optimize designs by supporting design optimization initiatives, including weight reduction strategies, to enhance both performance and efficiency.
  • Lead testing initiatives by spearheading testing activities, including static and component-level testing, to validate the integrity and safety of seating components.
  • Collaborate effectively by acting as the certification representative within integrated project teams for various engineering projects, ensuring alignment and communication across disciplines.
  • Communicate results by developing and preparing test plans, reports, and documentation for communication with regulatory agencies, showcasing compliance and promoting transparency.
  • Manage projects by ensuring the successful completion of assigned project phases within budgetary and time constraints, demonstrating project management acumen.
  • Define engineering approaches by participating in defining engineering strategies and planning/executing the certification work for Main Cabin Seating Products Teams.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline.
  • Ability to perform classical stress analysis.
  • Familiarity with strengths of standard aviation materials.
  • Prior working experience in the aerospace industry, specifically with aircraft interiors.
  • Prior experience reviewing and approving drawings.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with structural finite element analysis (FEA) methods and modeling applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and give presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and productively with team members and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work proficiently in Microsoft Office Suite applications and engineering-related software programs.
