ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Financial Assistance Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting uninsured and underinsured patients, providing essential support through intake processes, eligibility evaluations, and guidance in completing applications for various healthcare programs.
The Specialist connects eligible individuals with affordable primary and specialty care services and engages in community outreach to promote access to available healthcare resources.
Responsibilities include assisting patients with their hospital bills, implementing financial assistance policies, collecting payments, and utilizing strong problem-solving skills to address issues while remaining informed about state programs.
This role reports to the Manager of Patient Accounts and operates within established organizational policies and procedures.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Screen and assist uninsured and underinsured patients to enroll in governmental and community health programs.
- Maintain knowledge of eligibility and documentation requirements for various programs.
- Identify patient needs and develop strategies to address care gaps.
- Follow up with clients to ensure ongoing access to healthcare services.
- Advocate for clients with relevant agencies and organizations.
- Assist patients in applying for pharmacy assistance programs.
- Communicate effectively with staff to share necessary information.
- Maintain accurate records in compliance with regulations.
- Stay informed about community healthcare resources.
- Protect patient confidentiality and handle sensitive information with care.
- Provide pricing estimates and information on financial assistance options to patients.
- Collaborate with departments regarding payment amounts prior to service.
- Educate patients about their financial responsibilities.
- Uphold the hospital's financial assistance policies and procedures.
- Serve as a model for excellent customer service and professional conduct.
- Attend required meetings and fulfill other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is an advantage.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with patients regarding payment policies are essential.
