As a Respiratory Care Practitioner II Registered at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality respiratory care services to patients in various areas of the hospital. Under the supervision of a physician, you will be responsible for assuming primary clinical responsibility for all respiratory care modalities and exercising independent clinical judgment in the respiratory care of patients.
Key Responsibilities- Assessment and Data Collection: Systematically assess patients' overall cardiopulmonary status by inspection, palpation, percussion, auscultation, and patient interview. Interpret data to formulate goal-directed plans of care and determine requirements for treatment.
- Diagnostic Modalities: Perform procedures and interpret results, including ABG sampling and analysis, co-oximetry, spirometry, pressure-volume and flow-volume loops, cuff pressure, sputum induction, and EKGs.
- Equipment Management: Select, assemble, and check equipment for cleanliness, proper function, and safe operation. Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs of equipment.
- Therapeutic Procedures: Operate medical equipment within manufacturer and department guidelines to safely treat patients. Conduct therapeutic procedures to maintain a patent airway, remove bronchopulmonary secretions, and/or achieve adequate ventilation and oxygenation.
- Documentation and Communication: Accurately document all required information in the medical record according to departmental policy and procedure. Explain planned therapy or procedure and goals to patients in understandable terms to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes.
- Education: Graduate from a respiratory care education program supported by CoARC or accredited by CAAHEP, with 62 semester hours of college credit, including a background in the basic sciences, or baccalaureate degree in an area other than respiratory care or Associates of Arts or Science degree.
- License and Certification: Respiratory Care Practitioner License (California) from National Board of Respiratory Care and Registered Respiratory Therapist Certificate.
- Experience: At least three (3) years regular (20 hours or more per week) of recent experience as Respiratory Care Practitioner.
- Certification: Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Certified or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist by the National Board for Respiratory Care preferred.
- Experience: At least one year of recent critical care experience preferred.
