Key Responsibilities- Develop and Implement Individualized Education Plans
Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other members of the educational team to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs of students with visual impairments.
- Provide Direct Instruction and Support
Deliver direct instruction in core academic subjects, including reading, writing, math, and science, using appropriate adaptations and accommodations as needed to ensure students with visual impairments have equal access to education.
- Teach Specialized Skills
Teach specialized skills such as braille literacy, adaptive technology, orientation and mobility, and independent living skills to students with visual impairments, empowering them to become independent and confident individuals.
- Assess Student Progress
Regularly assess students' strengths, needs, and progress through ongoing observation, evaluation, and data collection to inform instruction and make data-driven decisions.
- Collaborate with Classroom Teachers
Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify curriculum materials and instructional strategies to meet the needs of students with visual impairments, ensuring a cohesive and inclusive learning environment.
Qualifications- Education and Certification
Bachelor's or master's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field, and current WA State Teacher certification with proper endorsement.
- Professional Qualities
Able to pass a background check and drug test, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
