Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Attorney IV to join our team at the City of Atlanta. As a key member of our Litigation Division, you will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and representation to the City and its departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Legal Advice and Representation: Serve as lead counsel on assigned litigation, including trials and hearings, and provide expert legal advice to City departments and officials.
  • Manage Caseload: Supervise and manage a caseload of complex litigation cases, including discovery, pleadings, and trial preparation.
  • Develop and Implement Litigation Strategies: Collaborate with City officials and attorneys to develop and implement effective litigation strategies to achieve the City's goals and objectives.
  • Provide Training and Support: Provide training and support to junior attorneys and staff on litigation practices and procedures.
  • Stay Current with Legal Developments: Stay up-to-date with new developments in civil, constitutional, and administrative law, as well as public utilities, public elections, and public safety law.
  • Operate Document Management System: Operate the Department of Law's Document Management System with proficiency.
Requirements
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to Maintain Confidentiality: Have the ability to maintain confidentiality of information and documents.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Litigation: Have experience in litigation, including trial and appellate practice.
  • Knowledge of City Government: Have knowledge of the duties, powers, and limitations of a city government.
  • Appellate Practice: Have experience in appellate practice, including judicial procedures and rules of evidence.
