About the RoleWe are seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as the Vocal Ensemble Director. This full-time, nine-month position requires a minimum of ten hours of work per week, including attendance at all rehearsals and performances.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for attending all rehearsals and performances, coordinating joint vocal and instrumental ensemble rehearsals with the BC bOp Director, and creating a syllabus and rehearsal plans for every meeting.
- Instructing members in the fundamentals of jazz style, maintaining timeliness, order, and structure in rehearsals, and planning a repertoire that includes a variety of styles and provides musical challenges to the members are also key responsibilities of this role.
- The Vocal Ensemble Director will also ensure the highest possible level of performance from the members through a proper warm-up process, effective preparation, attention to musical and organizational detail, and attention to individual members.
- This position also involves recruiting potential members, planning and holding auditions for membership, maintaining a cooperative working relationship with the Director of BC bOp, ensemble members, and University Administration, and managing all equipment necessary for rehearsals and performances.
To be considered for this exciting opportunity, candidates must possess:
- A Bachelor of Music or equivalent experience teaching vocal music.
- Experience teaching and/or performing vocal jazz professionally.
- Experience with music notation software such as Finale or Sibelius.
- Familiarity with audio and sound reinforcement equipment set-up, use, and maintenance.
- The ability to relate to, teach, and motivate college students.
