Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Roadway Design Engineer to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and managing complex transportation projects, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage roadway designs for a wide range of transportation projects, including in-house and consultant designs.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Coordinate with other divisions to ensure project segments remain on target.
  • Manage contracts with consultants and vendors, including negotiating contracts, processing vouchers, and evaluating performance.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to enhance team performance and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Valid Professional Engineer's license.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in roadway design and project management, including responsible charge engineering.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to coach and train others.
  • Experience with engineering software programs, including Microstation and Geopak.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification as a Project Management Professional.
  • Progressively responsible experience in roadway design and project management.
