Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive health maintenance, preventive, and primary medical care to inmates. You will also assist in the operation of the healthcare unit, develop and coordinate nursing care plans, and implement emergency measures as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct and document initial and ongoing comprehensive and focused nursing assessments of the health status of patients.
  • Develop and coordinate a comprehensive plan of nursing care to maintain continuity of treatment and develop focused plans of nursing care.
  • Implement the plan of care by administering medical and nursing treatments, including giving medications, titrating medications, daily detox assessments, and handling dressing changes.
  • Document medical history, including current medical problems, allergies, ongoing medications, and treatment of patients, using an electronic medical records program.
  • Provide sound pharmacology dispensing practices, including drug identification, drug action, side effects, and proper dosage.
  • Respond to emergency situations and take charge of the scene until EMT arrives if a physician or physician's assistant is not on scene.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing or an Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required.
  • Must possess a current unencumbered license to practice nursing in the State of Oregon as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Must be able to pass a law enforcement background check and a psychological assessment.
Working Conditions:

The Corrections Health Nurse will work in a potentially hazardous and life-threatening environment, with exposure to abusive language, personal and familial threats, and possibility of physical assaults. The position requires sitting for extended periods, moderate keyboarding, climbing stairs, and walking from area to area repeatedly.

Benefits:

Lincoln County offers a comprehensive benefit package, including vacation, holiday, and sick leave, as well as medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, long-term disability insurance. Other optional insurances are available. PERS retirement plan is provided to employees who are required to carry a gun. For other employees in the LCDA unit, there is a 401K retirement plan with a current County contribution of 11%.
