Job Summary
The University of Colorado Boulder Museum is seeking a highly skilled Visitor Services Attendant to provide exceptional customer service, retail support, and security to museum patrons. This role is responsible for supplementing permanent security/visitor services personnel and supporting front desk operations, opening and closing of the museum, and working at the front desk during evening lectures, opening receptions, and other special events.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service and demonstrate knowledge of the museum, its personnel, and the CU campus by informing visitors about museum operations, giving campus directions, answering questions, explaining policies, and advising phone inquiries.
- Protect the museum by supervising the actions of visitors, both in person and via CCTV cameras, and safeguarding museum keys and noticing any unusual occurrences.
- Provide access to the museum building by unlocking the building, disarming the security system, opening exhibit halls and common areas, and closing the museum building by locking entrance doors, checking and locking all interior rooms, closing windows, turning off all electrical equipment (except computers) and lights, and arming electronic security system upon exiting the building.
- Facilitate retail sales by welcoming and assisting customers and being familiar with merchandise, making sales and/or returns correctly using the point of purchase and credit card system, and closing the cash drawer daily by counting the drawer and using the Clover receipts.
- Operate as a backup building proctor by noticing building problems or unexpected changes and responding to emergency requests from museum staff, responding to building emergencies or emergencies involving museum patrons by contacting the Service Center, Alarm Detection Systems, CUPD, or other appropriate authorities, and documenting interactions, phone calls, and requests to Facilities Management.
- Work with other members of the museum's public section to help with programs, tours, and other activities as needed.
Requirements
- 2 years of experience in retail and customer service, with education may substituting for experience on a year-for-year basis.
- High school diploma.
- Fluent speaker of English.
- Energetic.
- Excellent relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and with responsibility for initiating and completing tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience from an accredited college or university.
- Spanish language proficiency.
- Experience in formal and informal education settings.
