Job Summary:

Are you passionate about empowering veterans and their families by providing access to benefits and resources? The Arizona Department of Veterans' Services is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterans' Benefit Counselor to join our team.

About the Role:

As a Veterans' Benefit Counselor, you will play a critical role in connecting veterans and their families with federal and state veteran-related benefits. You will provide comprehensive counseling services, assist with benefit application processes, and participate in outreach and education activities to promote awareness of available benefits and services.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Conduct in-person or virtual interviews and counseling sessions with veterans and their families to determine their eligibility for benefits.
  • Assist clients with accurately completing benefit forms, gathering supporting documents, and submitting claims to the VA in a timely manner.
  • Review claim files to ensure compliance with current laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Provide high-quality customer service and establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Participate in community outreach activities to engage with service members, veterans, and their families to disseminate information and offer agency services and referrals.
Requirements:
  • Ability to obtain accreditation by the VA and certified proficient by the Arizona Department of Veterans Services within six months from the date of hire.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license and ability to pass an extensive background investigation by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality.
